Jamao (बैठक, “a gathering”) is an event platform built for the people who run India's meetups, workshops, demo days and hackathons. Free events are free forever. Paid events pay a small, transparent fee. Everything else, from UPI to WhatsApp to GST, is handled the way India actually works.
Why Jamao exists
Bengaluru alone hosts hundreds of tech events every month. Most of them are still run on a Google Form, a WhatsApp group and a spreadsheet. The global tools that organizers love cannot settle money to an Indian bank account, do not speak WhatsApp, and treat GST as someone else's problem. Indian ticketing platforms were built for concerts and charge like it.
We built Jamao to give community organizers the polish of the best global tools with rails that work here: UPI and cards through Razorpay, WhatsApp confirmations and reminders, city discovery pages that rank on Google, QR check-in from a phone, and a receipt or GST invoice for every rupee that moves.
What we believe
- Free events are free, forever, unlimited. No attendee caps, no “pro” paywall on reminders or check-in. Volunteer-run meetups are the reason a tech city has a scene at all.
- Never hold organizer money. Ticket revenue is split inside the payment gateway and settled directly to the organizer. We are not a wallet and will not become one.
- No ads on attendees. Your members' attention is not our inventory.
- Fix the no-show problem. Optional, fully refundable commitment deposits on free events, refunded automatically the moment someone checks in.
- Privacy by default. We ask for the minimum, tell you exactly why, and let you withdraw consent in one click. See our privacy notice.
How we make money
A platform fee of 3% on paid tickets (plus 18% GST on that fee), with no fixed per-ticket charge so a ₹199 ticket stays viable. Payment gateway charges are passed through at cost. Organizers can absorb the fees or pass them on to attendees with a single toggle. Community Pro, a monthly subscription for high-volume organizers, lowers the fee and adds CRM and broadcast tools.
