Terms of Service
These terms are a contract between you and Sociotech IT Services (“Jamao”, “we”). They apply to everyone who uses jamao.in, whether you are attending an event or hosting one. Organizers are additionally bound by the data-processing addendum in section 8.
Last updated: 14 September 2026
1. Who these terms cover
Jamao is a marketplace that lets organizers publish event pages, collect registrations and sell tickets, and lets attendees discover and register for those events. The organizer, not Jamao, is the seller of the ticket and the provider of the event. Jamao provides the software, the payment integration and the messaging rails.
By creating an account, registering for an event or publishing one, you accept these terms, our privacy notice and our refund policy. If you are using Jamao on behalf of a company, community or institution, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it.
2. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Attendees under 18 may attend events only with the consent of a parent or guardian, which the organizer is responsible for obtaining (for example at student hackathons).
- Sign-in is by one-time code sent to your email or WhatsApp number. You are responsible for keeping that inbox and number secure; anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
- One person, one account. You may run any number of communities and events from it.
- We may suspend accounts that violate these terms, attempt fraud, scrape the service, or harass other users.
3. Attendee terms
- A registration is a contract between you and the organizer. The organizer decides who may attend (approval-based events), the capacity, and the ticket price.
- Your ticket is a QR code tied to your account. It is non-transferable unless the organizer says otherwise on the event page.
- Refunds follow the organizer's stated refund window and our refund policy. Where the organizer cancels the event, you are refunded in full.
- If an event uses a commitment deposit, the deposit is refunded to your original payment method automatically when you check in. If you do not attend and do not cancel within the organizer's window, the deposit is forfeited to the organizer.
- By registering you agree that your name, email, and phone number (if provided) are shared with the organizer so they can run the event. You can ask the organizer to delete this data after the event; see section 8.
- You agree to receive transactional messages (confirmation, reminders, changes, cancellation) for events you register for. Marketing messages are sent only with your separate, optional consent.
4. Organizer terms
- You are solely responsible for the event: its content, venue, safety, permissions, speaker rights, and compliance with local law (including any entertainment or local-body levies that may apply to large ticketed events).
- Event pages must be accurate. Do not list an event you are not authorised to run, and do not advertise sponsors, speakers or venues that have not confirmed.
- To sell paid tickets you must complete payout onboarding: legal name, entity type, PAN, optional GSTIN, and a bank account or UPI ID. This creates a linked account with our payment partner (Razorpay Route) so that ticket revenue settles directly to you. We never hold your money.
- You may set a refund window. Whatever the window, attendees are refunded in full when you cancel the event or materially change its date or city.
- Attendee data you receive through Jamao may be used only to run the event you received it for, unless the attendee has separately opted in to your community's updates by following it. See the data-processing addendum.
- Curated listings: Jamao sometimes lists events sourced from public pages so that a city calendar is complete. Such listings link out to the source and show a “Claim this event” option. If a listing describes your event, you may claim it; if you want it removed instead, email hello@jamao.in and we will remove it within 2 business days.
- You grant Jamao a non-exclusive licence to display your event content (title, description, images) on the platform, in city calendars, feeds, newsletters and social posts that promote your event, until you delete it.
5. Payments, fees and taxes
Fees are shown before checkout as separate line items, as required by the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020.
| Item | Rate | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Platform fee | 3% of the ticket price, no fixed component; ₹0 on free tickets and on commitment deposits | Organizer by default; can be passed to the attendee per event |
| GST on platform fee | 18% (SAC 998599, online marketplace services) | Same as platform fee |
| Payment gateway | Passed through at the gateway's published rate (approximately 2% plus GST) | Same as platform fee |
| GST-TCS under section 52 CGST Act | 0.5% of taxable value, only when the organizer is GST-registered; credited to the organizer's electronic cash ledger | Deducted from the organizer's settlement |
| TDS under section 194-O Income-tax Act | 0.1% of gross sales; individuals/HUF with PAN and gross sales under ₹5 lakh per year are exempt | Deducted from the organizer's settlement where applicable |
- Settlements are made by Razorpay to the organizer's linked account and are held until two days after the event ends so that refunds can be funded. Razorpay's own settlement cycle (typically T+2 business days) then applies.
- Jamao issues a GST invoice to the organizer for the platform fee, and a receipt to the attendee on behalf of the organizer for every paid order. Organizers who need B2B invoices with their GSTIN should add it in payout settings before the sale.
- Organizers are responsible for their own GST on ticket sales, if applicable. Jamao is not the supplier of the event.
- Card and UPI details are handled by the payment gateway on PCI-DSS compliant hosted pages. Jamao never sees or stores them.
6. Content and conduct
- Do not publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, infringing, deceptive, or hateful, or that targets people on the basis of religion, caste, gender, sexuality or disability.
- No events that are primarily multi-level marketing, unregistered investment schemes, gambling, or that require attendees to hand over identity documents beyond what the venue reasonably requires for entry.
- Do not scrape, bulk-export or resell attendee data. Do not send unsolicited WhatsApp or SMS broadcasts through the platform to people who have not opted in.
- We may remove content or events that violate these rules, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
7. Liability and disputes
- Jamao is provided “as is”. We work hard on uptime but do not guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, particularly during a payment gateway or messaging provider outage.
- Because the organizer runs the event, Jamao is not liable for the event itself: its quality, cancellation, venue conditions, or anything that happens there. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the platform fees you paid us in the six months before the claim.
- These terms are governed by Indian law. Courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any consumer forum rights that cannot be waived.
- Before going to court, write to us. Most disputes are resolved within a few days by email.
8. Data-processing addendum (organizers)
When an attendee registers for your event, Jamao shares their personal data with you. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) you become a Data Fiduciary for that data in your own right, and Jamao acts as a Data Fiduciary for the platform account and as a Data Processor for the messaging we send on your behalf. This addendum sets the minimum standard you agree to.
8.1 What is shared
Name, email, phone number (if the attendee provided one), ticket type, registration status, check-in time, answers to any registration questions you added, and payment status (never card or bank details).
8.2 Permitted purposes
- Running the specific event: entry, seating, catering, safety, post-event feedback.
- Sending event-related communication through Jamao (confirmations, reminders, changes).
- Communication outside Jamao only for that event, or where the attendee has followed your community, or has given you separate consent.
8.3 Your obligations
- Do not sell, rent or share attendee data with sponsors or third parties without the attendee's explicit, itemised consent. “Opt-in to hear from our sponsors” must be a separate, unticked box.
- Keep exported CSVs on devices with a screen lock and delete them when no longer needed for the event, and in any case within 12 months, unless you have your own lawful basis to keep them.
- Honour attendee requests to correct or erase their data within 7 days, and tell us at grievance@jamao.in if you receive one that involves data held on Jamao.
- Notify us within 24 hours if you believe attendee data obtained through Jamao has been lost, leaked or accessed without authorisation, so that we can meet the 72-hour notification obligations under the DPDP Rules.
- For events with attendees under 18, obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting anything beyond name and school/college.
8.4 Jamao's obligations to you
- We send messages only for the templates you can see in the product, keep audit logs of every message, and store data in India (Mumbai region) with encryption in transit and at rest.
- We will assist you with attendee rights requests and with any lawful request from the Data Protection Board of India.
- We use sub-processors for hosting, email, WhatsApp and payments; the current list is in the privacy notice.
9. Changes and contact
We may update these terms. Material changes are announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect; continuing to use Jamaoafter that date is acceptance. Questions: hello@jamao.in. Grievances about personal data: grievance@jamao.in.
